Foursquare Update: Now Live At All College & Universities

Foursquare is one of the fastest growing social media sites in this day and age, we have seen Facebook trying to cut in on its success by launching their own geo-location section however Foursquare are the guru’s in this market.

Back in September 2010, OSM’s Maddy Rowe reported on how Foursquare were announcing a new University program, the concept that we are talking about is badges for colleges and Universities. Foursquare began looking at this in a partnership with Harvard and now the custom badges are live.

Over at the Foursquare blog they have added a post detailing that there are over 100 schools in the partnership and to the amazement of the Foursquare staff, over 25,000 badges have been unlocked in the last 3 months. Now we can inform you that the Foursquare functionality has been added to ALL campus worldwide.

You can also read Julie O’Dell of Mashable’s take on the Foursquare Univesity program. O’Dell also talks about in her article how students are encouraged to sign up for the startup’s ambassador program, this is really cool as it gives all people who have signed up some free Foursquare gear and tools for spreading the word.

Starting from today you may even be able to get a discount on your lunch between your classes using your ‘Munchies’ badge or as the blog puts it ‘wear your Munchies badge with pride’. This is just another great way of taking advantage of Foursquare’s deals.
