HTC Thunderbolt Release Date: Looks like February 14 at Best Buy

We’ve been bringing you lots of news, and of course speculation, about the HTC Thunderbolt 4G, a handset that many of you are waiting for and that looks set to be a real hit. As well as some price information and a hands-on look we’ve also been reporting on various release date rumors.

Recently we told how an accessory for the Thunderbolt is due to arrive at Best Buy on February 19, sparking speculation that the handset itself would be in by the end of February and then 2 days ago we learned that the release date was looking promising for February 24 (from a usually reliable source to Android Guys) along with an unconfirmed price. Now we hear from Phil Nickinson over on Android Life, that a leaked screenshot shows a release date of February 14.

The screenshot comes from a Best Buy inventory list with an in-stock date of February 14. We’ve taken a look and Nickinson points out that although the name HTC Thunderbolt doesn’t actually appear, they have done some serious detective work and found that the product code is a match for one that was seen on a Thunderbolt box spotted in a recent hands-on video so it does seem that this launch date is indeed for the Thunderbolt at Best Buy. Nickinson also speculates from the Android Central forums that the Thunderbolt could appear at Verizon on February 11, although of course this is unconfirmed as yet.

For those of you who don’t know too much about the HTC Thunderbolt we included it as one of our ‘5 of the best’ Android smartphones from CES 2011 and it’s a 4G LTE phone for the Verizon network. It has high specs such as an 8-megapixel camera, HD video recording support and a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen and we have also given information on some accessories for it. Yesterday though, we also wrote about the news that 2 of the main features (mobile hotspot and Skype video chat), may not actually be available on release which could disappoint many people.

If you want to find out more about the HTC Thunderbolt, then take a trip to the official product page at HTC here. We’d like to know if you are one of the many waiting for the release of this impressive-looking Android smartphone and what has made you choose the Thunderbolt over one of the many other new handsets coming to the market. Let us know with your comments please.

I'm currently rockin' a Blackberry Curve 8330. My contract was up in December, and I've been desperately waiting on a 4G LTE phone from Verizon. I like the HTC Thunderbolt mainly because its the first to be released. HTC also seems to push Android updates to their phones more often than not. Although I'm a little hesitant to buy a new phone immediately after Verizon announced they will no longer be doing "new every two". My next new phone will likely be my phone for quite sometime (3 yrs +). The Droid Bionic seems intriguing, but I don't know if I can wait. Also the Droid line doesn't update as often.
