Facebook Places Deals: Offers hit UK today

When Facebook began it’s Places social location service and launched Facebook Deals in the U.S. last year, many of us wondered when Deals would come to the U.K. It seems we won’t have much longer to wait though as the news is that Facebook Deals is about to be introduced to the U.K. with a special event today.

The news comes to us from Stuart Dredge over on Mobile Entertainment, sourced from The Telegraph, who reports that the location-based mobile discounts will be coming to restaurants and retailers near you. Users of Places Deals can receive coupons and offers from various outlets and venues when they check in at a nearby location.

A press event in London has been planned for today when more details will be released and this means that the U.K. will be the second country to get the Facebook Deals service. Foursquare ,the location-based social network, also offers a similar scheme. Rosie Baker over on Marketing Week also reports on Facebook Deals coming to the U.K. and lists some of the launch deals available, from places as varied as Alton Towers, Debenhams and Starbucks, and some of the offers look really promising.
