Android Honeycomb Event Being Staged February 2nd

Here is a date for your diary…The 2nd of February will see Google hold an event at their Mountain View headquarters, where they will show off their new tablet optimised OS, Honeycomb.

The OS which is officially known as Anroid 3.0 is specifically designed for tablets and has plenty of juicy new features that will be unveiled such as a new look interface, deeper multimedia integration and quicker plane switching. We will no doubt get a real close up look at the full picture on Wednesday. The event is at 10AM PT and can be streamed via on Android’s YouTube channel.

Google has described the event as “A Taste of What’s New from Android.” Although we know that Honeycomb has tablets in mind, it is not clear whether it will make an appearance on smartphones. Andronica has stated that the interface will differ from the current mobile OS, and may not even resemble Gingerbread.

Ben Parr over on Mashable is lucky enough to be attending the event on the 2nd and has already had a quick play with Honeycomb on the Motorola Xoom tablet. You can watch Ben running through a few of the features embedded in the video below. What do you think Honeycomb will bring to Android; will it be the best OS yet?
