Freesat Viewers Get Boosted Red Button From BBC

The BBC has today announced that Freesat viewers will get an upgraded version of their red button interactive service.

The BBC has said on its official blog that the Freesat viewers will be able to enjoy single stream video services as well as the Sports Multiscreen. These features had previously been missing from the free-to-air platform, according to Broadband TV News. Users will welcome this update as they were previously missing out on content that was viewable on Virgin Media, Freeview and Sky.

The first piece of new BBC red button content available is the Being Human Spinoff, Becoming Human which you will see on 30th January. There is also extra exclusive content from the comedy series “Epsodes” which you can watch if you are a Freesat user.

The content is delivered via satellite and uses scheduling tools that launch an MHEG application, enabling the viewer to be taken to the interactive streams and back again. If you want to see the TV listings for the interactive service then you can find them by following the link to the BBC Blog. Leave us your thoughts on the boost to the BBC’s red button service.
