MWC 2011: Preview / Roundup of top expectations

After all the excitement of CES our attentions are already being drawn to Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona next month. We’ve already reported on some specific items we expect to hear more of at MWC, such as a new Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab from Samsung, a Facebook phone from HTC and an LG Optimus 3D, among others, but we wanted to give you a general picture of what can be expected.

MWC 2011 runs from February 14 to February 17 and we’ve already noted from CES that this is very much the year of the tablet. We’ve already spoken of the upcoming Galaxy Tab 2 but others we’re expecting to hear of are the LG G-Slate rumored to be 3D-capable, and the HTC Flyer. We’re also expecting a host of other tablets running on Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Avram Piltch over on Laptop also predicts an array of Honeycomb tablets and also hopes to see a finished BlackBerry PlayBook. Other specific devices many expect to see more of are the PlayStation Phone/Xperia Play (although there have already been some looks at this), the first MeeGo phone, a possible Droid X successor, and don’t forget of course all of the devices we mentioned in the first paragraph of this article.

More general things we expect to see at MWC are Windows Phone 7 updates, new Intel mobile processors and after all the recent excitement about the first dual-core processor phones such as the LG Optimus 2X and Motorola Atrix 4G, we may even see talk of quad-core mobile processors.
