Motorola Xoom Release: Coming Feb and 4G LTE version in Q2

Since we first heard of the Motorola Xoom we’ve been following all the news and speculation for this new tablet that is set to give the iPad a real run for its money. Among some of our many posts are price rumors, a look at it vs. the BlackBerry Playbook, and also against the Notion Ink Adam, and how it was voted ‘best in show’ at CES 2011.

Recently we also gave a rumored release month but now we have official word that the release will in fact be in February. We now how many of you are waiting for this impressive device which will be the first tablet released to be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, so you haven’t got too much longer to wait. The news comes to us from Kellex over on Droid Life from the Motorola earning’s call which has just occurred.

Sanjay Jha, Motorola CEO confirmed the month of release, initially saying it would be at the end of February, but later mentioning mid-February, which would fit with earlier rumors. The February release will be for the 3G version with the 4G LTE model coming in the second quarter, possibly May. An article on Electronista also reports on the Motorola earning call and reports some doubts about the Android 3.0 operating system being fully-ready for the Xoom release date of February although Jha insisted the Xoom should still be ready.
