Sony VAIO Update: SA, SB – Price & Specs

Back at CES 2011 Sony gave some details of a 3D laptop, it is to be enrolled into a new F series, now we are hearing that Sony are going to update their current Sony VAIO models of SA and SB with refreshed specifications around the new i5 and i7 processors.

According to Engadget’s Vlad Savov, there’s an Intel Core i7-2620M found in the listings for the AS1x9E/XI model, it also has 128GB of Dual SSD storage, 4GB of DDR3 RAM a AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics and a 13.3” screen at a resolution of 1600 x 900. The price tag coupled with this is £1,571, this equates to around $2,500.

The SB series isn’t quite as high spec as the SA as it us using the i5 chip, it also has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB storage, Radeon HD 6470M and a 13.3” screen at the resolution of 1366 x 768. Pricing for this is at around £945. You can read more details about the laptops over at SonyInsider.com where Stan M has written about them.

Some interesting things that have been noticed about the specs is the decision taken not to include any USB 3.0 ports or indeed Blu-Ray players. Perhaps these will be additional add-ons to the normal package with an additional charge; you all know how Sony rolls. We do not yet have release dates but as soon as we do they will be reported. There are no pictures available yet either, so we are sitting tight and waiting for them. Engadget had also included a video of some prototype Sony VAIOs that were on display at CES 2011; you can view this at the bottom of our article.
