Phase One IQ180: 80-Megapixel Camera Sensor

We’ve seen some amazing pieces of our technology in our time at OSM and this item today is one of those. The Phase One IQ180 is a digital back 80-megapixel camera sensor, yes that’s right, 80-megapixels. The Danish maker is renowned for its high-end camera equipment and this new sensor is certainly that.

The IQ180 has the image sensor, a viewing screen, USB 3.0 data connection and all the electronics involved in one module that sits on the back of a medium-format camera body, according to Stephen Shankland over on Cnet. The market that uses this format is made of serious stuff and will be willing to pay the price of many thousands of dollars for this device.

Phase One’s previous high-end camera back was a 60-megapixel version, so the IQ180 is a real step up. The dynamic range, which gauges the spread of light and dark, is 12.5-f-stop. The release date is set for late April and Sean Hollister over on Engadget, sourced from Luminous Landscape, reports a price of $43,990.
