Notion Ink Adam Update Problems: What about you?

The innovative Notion Ink Adam tablet has rightly captured the imagination of many people and here at OSM we’ve been following all the developments in this intriguing story. We’ve made no secret of the fact that we are big fans and among our recent stories were the news that shipping had begun, the first unboxing photos courtesy of Notion Ink creator Rohan Shravan, and a look at the Notion Ink Adam vs. the iPad 2.

In our story about the unboxing photos we also told how Shravan had informed Notion Ink customers that when they received their devices there would already be an update waiting for them. Now we hear that the first Adam’s are finally arriving in the hands of eager customers today, but there is a problem it seems. Chris Burns over on Android Community, sourced from Slash Gear, reports that there are problems with the software update which is not working correctly.

Taking a look over at, which is also reporting on the first customer unboxings, we note there is also an alert which reads, “WARNING – Do not update your Adam!” If you click on the comments for this you can see reams of comments from Notion Ink customers, some of whom are having trouble with the update.

Eventually a comment from Notion Ink itself comes up which reads, “Greetings from Notion Ink! First of all, we would like to Welcome you to the Notion Ink Family! We understand and share your excitement about you receiving your Adam. Secondly, a couple of our family members who received the Adam already, reported to us that they faced some issues in updating their device. So, as a precautionary measure, we would advice you to refrain from updating your Adam until we investigate this matter and contact you with an official update regarding this matter. In case you need any other assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at Warm Regards.”

We’d recommend you tune into the Notioninkfan link above to keep up-to-date with this. We’d like to know your thoughts on this. Is this a temporary glitch do you think, as is the way with many new products, or a sign of something more serious? Will this in any way dent your enthusiasm for the Notion Ink Adam? Have you already got your Adam and what was your experience regarding the update? We’d really like to hear from you so please do share your comments with us.

crisis averted, NI creates fix within hours of discovery. How is that for customer service? If you are willing to criticize, also be willing to give praise where it is due!

I certainly a willing to give praise and if you read any of my previous articles about the Notion Ink Adam you'll note my enthusiasm for it. I am very glad to hear that the problem seems to have been sorted so quickly and so hats off to Notion Ink.

The issue has already been sorted. Less than a handful of users were affected by it and the first of those users has already reported that his Adam is up and running again. Notion ink already has a tutorial out on what to do if affected by the glitch and has posted it on the notioninkfan blog site.
This what the user had to say

    Hey everyone!!

great news. i got a fix from NI and it worked perfectly. Adam is up and running again after about two minutes doing a flash recovery.

they provided a linux and windows recovery (very glad for linux as that is what i rock) and two flavours of those for pixelQi vs lcd

as for those nay sayers…Apple had lots of issues with iOS4 and android manufactures have had problems when updating their OS. so even the big boyz have issues.

Within just a few hours, in the middle of the night (in India where NI is based), the NI team put together an easy-to-follow plan to alleviate this issue. One of the forums they sent it to is:
And, cut these guys some slack, hands down the Adam stomps ANYTHING on the tablet market and does so ahead of Google even releasing their Android "tablet" OS. Notion Ink stepped up and made it's customers happy in the middle of the night, when large corporations wouldn't even know they have a problem until 9AM the next day !
