This week’s edition of the top trends on Twitter is jam packed with celebrities, media and Justin Bieber. So lets get stuck in and see what everyone has been talking about on the world’s most popular microblogging site; chart courtesy of Mashable.
We start with the Golden Globes which is at the summit of this week’s chart. Thel 68th annual award for achievements in film saw Johnny Depp lose out and Jim Parsons who is best known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in American sit-com the Big Bang Theory win an accolade. Also given a mention by tweeters was the comedic performance of Ricky Gervais as host.
Down in 2nd place this week is Martin Luther King Jnr, who would have celebrated his 82nd birthday last Monday. The NFL has charted at number 3 this week with Bart Scott grabbing alot of attention because the New York Jets linebacker received plenty of attention after his team defeated the New England Patriots in the playoffs.
No shock here, becuse Justin Bieber has entered the chart at number 4 this week after a petty squabble between two sets of fans. The Jonas Brothers Vs Bieber fiasco continues with each group calling the others hero an amusing insult. The names that were called were “The Jonas Sisters” and “Justina Bieber”, very mature.
Football/Soccer is your numer 5 this week due to Darren Bent’s controversial transfer from Sunderland to Aston Villa; Bent went straight into the Villa lineup against Manchester City and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win on his debut.
LMAOTwitpics caused a mass breakout of funny picture sharing on Twitter this week and as a result has landed the topic a place at number 6 in the chart. Amongst the amusing images was a picture of Drake smiling at Lil Wayne with his shirt off and also a Justin Bieber tatoo.
Astrology has launched its way into the trends this week because of suggestions that there is a 13th zodic sign called Ophiuchus. Astrologers have speculated about this because the earth has changed its alignment since the zodiac signs were first calculated. The Jonas Brothers have stormed into the chart at number 8 this week for the same reason as Justin Bieber. Fans of both pop acts have been fueding and so it has caused both of their idols to become trends. Do the chart positions have anything to do with popularity?
Guess who…? Yes its Justin Bieber again at number 9 because of the hoax that he was dead. A number of sites like The Hot Hits reported that the Canadian singer may have been killed after a number of people left RIP messages on Twitter itself. I am pretty sure he is still alive but it probably had a few people going for a second, with joy and sorrow spreading across twitter like an infectious disease.
And last but not least is my favourite trend of the week which is the upcoming Batman Movie: The Dark Knight Rises. Warner Brothers announced earlier in the week that Anne Hathaway would be cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy would play Bane. That all for this week, but be sure to check out last week’s chart if you missed it, and to also look out for next week’s Twitter trends. Did you get involved in any of the topics that we have spoken about on Twitter?
