Here at OSM we recently told you about the new HP Pavilion desktop’s featuring AMD chips and it seems that AMD is going from strength-to-strength with some impressive milestones now being reached in its figures.
Over on Engadget, sourced from AMD (pdf), Vlad Savov has just reported on AMD’s last quarterly reports and it’s looking pretty good. The revenue of $1.65 billion with net income of $375 million is certainly impressive but more interesting perhaps is the report that 1.3 million Fusion Accelerated Processing Units (APU’s), have now been shipped, according to interim CEO Thomas Seifert, that’s just since November!
Not only that but as far as DirectX 11-class Graphics Processing Units (GPU’s) are concerned, shipments have now passed 35 million. That’s pretty impressive stuff but Benjamin Pimentel over on MarketWatch reports that even though AMD beat earnings estimations, shares yesterday fell sharply following Dick Meyer’s departure as CEO. For more on that check out the MarketWatch link above.
What are your thoughts on AMD’s success with APU’s and GPU’s? Do you think that the shares fall for AMD is a temporary blip? Why not let us know by sending in your comments.
