Samsung Galaxy Tab Price Reduced: iPad 2 Anticipation

We are hearing reports that Sprint has dropped the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab to a mere $300 on a contract with them, otherwise you can get a standalone Samsung Galaxy Tab for $499. The success of the Samsung Galaxy Tab wasn’t something that was expected but it has continued to sell well through to the end of 2010. The Galaxy tab has actually sold more than 1.5 million units.

Of course, the Apple iPad is currently the top dog as it outsold all of its competitors pretty convincingly. The iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab have pretty much paved the way for the onslaught of tablet PCs that were featured at CES 2011. Some of which included the Motorola Xoom and the Notion Ink Adam.

Perhaps Sprint and Samsung know something we don’t or they have been listening to the speculation surrounding the cases that we are seeing for the likely release of the iPad 2. Are Samsung feeling a little uneasy about the new technologies being offered in 2011 or are they simply squeezing as much out of the market before breaking some news of their own, maybe a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is on the cards?

From reading through Jane McEntegart’s article over at, she is suggesting that we may hear more at the MWC (mobile web congress), which will run on the following dates in February, 14th – 17th. Costin Matei of gives some of the pricing that is also featured on the Sprint website.

What do you think is in the pipeline? A new Samsung Galaxy Tab or are the worried about the iPad 2 crushing their sales? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Quite a lot of tech companies are running scared of technology itself. They know every 6 months the newest and best tablet will be released. These companies (including Apple) are scrambling to hit the market first. The Motorola Xoom and the iPad2 will be the most advanced tablets on the market until the summer… then another tablet will come out that is even better. Then before December 2011, another tablet will surpass that. It's an amazing time!
