Porn Banned On Indonesian BlackBerry By The End Of The Week

RIM is acting quickly on the demands for banning pornography on BlackBerry smartphones in Indonesia, the world’s highest population of Muslims. RIM were threatened with losing their trading license within the country if a filter wasn’t put in place soon.

Now the BlackBerry makers will be working hard to put the filter in place as they will not want to lose revenue from Indonesia. According to an article by Associated Press RIM earns roughly $251 million per year from the BlackBerry users, which is a 3 million strong populous.

Now that the discussions have taken place, the managing director of RIM in Southeast Asia, Gregory Wade has said that company discussed the issue with the operators supporting the BlackBerry services and they will be ‘implementing this together‘.

According to the reports, RIM has agreed to put the filters in place within 100 hours of the meeting, which means the January 21st. The Indonesian government has said that they aren’t willing to extend the deadline although they haven’t mentioned the consequences for late delivery.

What do you think of the ban that’s coming in? Are you surprised that porn was allowed through in the first place? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
