Verizon iPhone Release: Amazon Say No?

Since we heard about Verizon’s iPhone release, new information has appeared stating that the Verizon version device will only be available through official stores or direct from Apple.

Although as we have seen in the past, outside suppliers normally decline comment on plans to stock a product, right up until the actual release date. Amazon.com as categorically said that they have no plans on launching the Verizon iPhone.

As PC Mag discovered, a spokeswoman from Amazon stated; “At this time, we do not have plans to carry the Verizon iPhone,” she added, “I will be in touch if that changes.” This was backed up by Verizon Wireless’s own spokeswoman, commenting that the company have no plans to distribute the device through outside retailers.

Social Barrel confirm that Verizon will be offering the CDMA EVDO model of its new found device from February 10th. Pre-orders from February 3rd, will be offered to current Verizon Wireless subscribers. Signing up for a two-year contract with the 16GB version will cost $199.99, whilst for the same term length the 32GB could be had for $299.99. Over 2,000 Verizon stores will carry stock, but you will also be able to pick one up from Apple Retail stores, or online at Verizon’s web site.

While Amazon do not offer the iPhone from its outlet’s, the company has plans to introduce a brand new mobile phone store. AmazonWireless will offer customers the complete package when it comes to choosing a device. Amazon is trialling the plan through a Beta phase which is allowing them to gather customer information to enable them to produce the ideal shopping experience. A source from Amazon said; “When our customers tell us the shopping experience meets the bar they’ve come to expect from Amazon.com, we’ll officially launch the store.”
