BlackBerry Dakota: It exists – specs leak

Here at OSM we endeavor to bring you all the news regarding new phones but one that had slipped under our radar was the BlackBerry Dakota and we suspect that there may be a few of you that hadn’t heard of it either.

However the Dakota really does exist and there are leaked specs to prove it, courtesy of Laura June over on Engadget, sourced from BGR. It certainly looks an attractive device and will boast a 2.8-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen. Other specs include a BlackBerry Bold-alike keyboard and 5-megapixel camera with HD recording.

It will be running on BlackBerry OS 6.1 and add to that 4GB of storage, 768MB of RAM and the fact it will have WiFi and capability of 3G hotspot and it all sums up to a decent device for BlackBerry fans and a definite step up. Eric Zeman of Information Week suggests it’s likely initial carrier will be AT&T as it has quad-band GMS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS cellular support.

What are your thoughts on the BlackBerry Dakota? Maybe you’re tempted to wait for Apple’s iPhone 5 instead or are you a BlackBerry devotee? We’d really like to hear your comments on this please.
