Why Small Businesses Should Take Advantage Of Social Networking

As many will know, starting your own small business isn’t easy, there’s so many considerations that need to be taken account of and then there’s the advertising side of things. We are hearing that many small businesses just aren’t taking advantage of Social Media and Social Networking.

We at OSM cannot think why this would be. What is the best source of advertising? Surely it’s the Internet right? Facebook alone has more than 500 million users worldwide, with more than half of those partaking in some sort of activity DAILY. The best bit about a social networking site… It’s free and every business loves a bit of free advertising.

We also informed you of some tips for offline advertising as well as some social trends that you should know about. There are always a few complications with Social Media; they just need to be simplified and optimized.

According to ITPro.co.uk’s Jennifer Scott, there has been a study performed by Fasthosts who are a web hosting firm. The results show that 77% of small businesses had never used social networking and only 27% had used the online technology at our fingertips to reach out to potential and current customers.

Perhaps these businesses don’t want the stress of trying to gain visibility on the web, whilst others may just not be able to see the potential benefits of it. The truth of it is, any business can gain if the time and effort is put in.

What may be useful for all small businesses is if you post your best and worst experiences in the comments below and maybe we can all learn from each other.

Absolutely agree! As a pr, I have to show and example to my sme clients how powerful social media is for reaching their audience and markets, be they consumers or other businesses. Once they know the value and the ad rate equivalent of their social media contribution, THEN they see its value! If you don’t know how to make digital media work, speak to someone who does. It’s worth it!
