Mac App Store: How To Transfer Angry Birds From iOS

For all you Angry Bird addicts out there, we have some thing that may help you out. As you know, the Mac App Store was launched recently and with it Angry Birds for the Mac. If you already have the game on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you may want to transfer your previously saved file over to your Mac to carry on where you left off.

We have already reported some information on Angry Birds in the past, such as how the game is free on Android, that there will most likely be a sequel to the popular release and now there is even going to be a board game!

Its worth noting that the game is exactly the same from your iDevice to your Mac, it’s just scaled up version. There are a few requirements for you to transfer your saved file so here’s a guide on how to do it.

First things first, you will need to have your iDevice jailbroken. You will then need to add SSH to your iDevice that has been jailbroken. You will then need an SSH client such as Cyberduck and then using your SSH client you will need to open connect it ensuring that it is set to SFTP which is the SSH file transfer protocol. Following on from setting your client under server you will need to add your device’s IP address by doing the going to the following location Settings then WiFi and there’s a blue arrow by Your Network’s Name and then IP Address. Enter the username as root and if you set a password on your SSH you will need to enter that too.

Once you are at this point, you need to navigate to the right folder which is like this private/var/mobile/applications/(*Angry Birds Folder)/Documents. The folder called Angry Birds is under applications, you need to search for it as there are a lot of folder names that have numerous characters. If you are wondering what you are meddling with here, these are all of the different elements of your apps.

Now that you are in the Angry Birds application folder, you need to look for a specific file called ‘highscores.lua’, once you find it, copy it to your Mac. Once you have done completed your copying, head into your Mac’s applications and go to the Angry Birds app, right click on it and then hit the ‘Show Package Contents’ again this shows you the different sections to your app, when you are in there replace the highscores.lua file with the one that you copied over from your handheld device and ’Hey Presto’ your previously saved game from your handheld device is now on your Mac.

If you would like to read more about the instructions and learn how to jailbreak your device (this isn’t something that we would ever advise) then head over to where they have detailed the each of the required components and also the jailbreaking guides.

We have also found you a slightly different guide over at that is also worth a read before you go ahead with the instructions we have detailed, it has a slightly different method but essentially does the same thing.

Let us know how you get on in the comments below.

You don't need to be jailbroken, nor do you need to go through all those hoops. Instead install iPhone Backup Extractor 1.2.2 on your Mac. Open it. Click Read Backups – it analyses your iTunes backups. Open the latest backup for the relevant device. Scroll to com.clickgamer.AngryBirds and choose extract. Save the folder to your desktop. Open it, go to Documents, and there is your highscores.lua. Available without a jailbreak, no SSH necessary, and oh so easy.

And how are you supposed to get the extracted files back onto another device without a jailbreak, hmm?
