Verizon iPhone release finally coming: Full background

Here at OSM we’ve been following the story of a Verizon iPhone from Apple for some time and know just how many of you are waiting for it to be released. Yesterday came the news we’ve waited for as after hearing rumors of a February release date we then found out that the Verizon iPhone will finally be announced at a special invitational Verizon Wireless event next week, on Tuesday January 11.

Earlier today we also told how we are wondering which version will in fact be released…a CDMA Verizon iPhone 4 which could be released imminently or whether in fact it would be a version of the next-generation iPhone, the iPhone 5 which would probably be released in June. Now we thought many of you, relieved that we will soon know the release date, might be interested in the full background to the Verizon iPhone saga.

An in-depth article over on Engadget by Paul Miller has rounded up a huge amount of information and literally tells you everything you need to know about the quest for a Verizon iPhone, including recent stories about an iPhone parts video pulled from YouTube, probably by Apple. The article concludes by saying that Engadget’s view on what we’ll most likely see is a Verizon iPhone 4 which will be released in February, which was our earlier prediction for what would happen, and not yet a Verizon iPhone 5 for the LTE network.

The Engadget article also has a useful timeline of stories at the end, going right back to July 2008, to give you the entire background to the Verizon iPhone saga. Meanwhile you might want to keep an eye on the Verizon Wireless website here where at some point they will surely be posting more information about the iPhone release and you can also sign up for e-mail updates.

We’ve always been interested to hear all your comments about the Verizon iPhone and have received some useful tipoffs from people in the past so please feel free to continue sending us your comments so that we can share them with our readers.
