iRig Mic for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch: You know you want one

We’re hearing some great tech news here at OSM this week and some of the biggest recent stories have been about the imminent release of the iPad 2 and the long-awaited Verizon iPhone release. The following product is a little quirkier but looks really great so we thought we’d share it with you.

The iRig Mic is the first handheld microphone for iOS devices, the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and news of it was brought to us by Darren Murph over on Engadget, sourced from IK Multimedia. The mic plugs right into your IOS device and with a recording app you can be sharing your magical voice with the world.

Some of the features include an electret-condenser unidirectional capsule, dual mini-jack connector, durable metal housing and multi-apps compatibility, and you can use it either handheld or with a standard mic stand. The price is $59.99 or €49.99 and we’ve also managed to find a video of the iRig Mic in action which you can see below this story.

We hadn’t managed to find a release date but a handy article by Brett James over on tell us it’s due in the first quarter of the year from IK Multimedia and worldwide electronic retailers. What are your thoughts on the iRig Mic? Do you want one and what potential do you think this device has? Why not send us your comments to let us know.
