iPad 2: Secret glimpse at CES 2011?

We’ve been bringing you a lot of stories recently about the much-talked about next-generation Apple iPad tablet, or iPad 2 as it’s known. Recently we told you about how an iPad 2 case with a mockup iPad had been shown at CES, and then how a mockup revealed some more possible clues about the iPad 2. Earlier today we also had hints about a possible iPad 2 release date in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Now our attention has been brought to an article over on Mashable by Charlie White which reports that a device that could be the iPad 2 was spotted at CES. The reverse of the tablet was glimpsed and had the necessary holes in the right places for specs which have already been leaked. It was seen at the GoPod Mobile booth and Mashable revisited the booth to find out more.

However the device had been snuck under some papers and they were not allowed to take any more photos of it. When staff at the booth were questioned about it they confirmed it was the reverse of the iPad 2 which was spotted and also asserted that Apple sent it to them. This is where it starts to sound a bit odd though and made both Mashable and ourselves somewhat suspicious as Apple is not exactly known for sending out prototypes before a release.

However Mashable managed to get some pretty decent pictures of the device so check them out and let us know what you think. This supposed iPad 2 body has also been reported on by Jeremy Horwitz over on iLounge who says that it’s being shown alongside an iPad 2 foldable rechargeable battery pack and supplies us with more photos. What do you think about this spot? We’d like to hear your thoughts so please do send us your comments.
