NVIDIA Tegra 2: Makes gaming formidable

NVIDIA’s 1GHz Tegra 2 chip has been one of the hottest things at CES 2011 and we’ve already given some details of two of the new phones that will be using it, the Motorola Atrix 4G and also the LG Optimus 2X.

These smartphones are among the first that will have a dual-core processor and one of the things we’ve been wondering is what performance the Tegra 2 will give to gaming on such devices. Vlad Savov over on Engadget reports that gaming on these phones using the Tegra 2 chip has now been displayed by NVIDIA and that the games were “handled with ease.” NVIDIA will be working with games developers to help them get the best of the Tegra 2 and will also be introducing Tegra Zone, an Android app exhibiting new games and videos.

You can see a video of the display of gaming at the Engadget link above. Meanwhile Dylan Bailey over on Slashgear also reports on a gaming display by NVIDIA using the LG Optimus 2X compared to the Samsung Nexus S. Contrasting the two showed that the Nexus S performance appeared to be in slow-motion next to that of the Optimus 2X . The smooth performance of the latter was again noted.

Will you be purchasing a Tegra2 smartphone and if so is it primarily because of the benefits to gaming or another reason? We’d be interested to hear your thoughts so please do send us your comments.
