Mac App Store: 10 of the best apps

The Mac App Store looks set to be a big hit and yesterday we gave you news that it was now live and also reported on a few teething problems. There are already around 1,000 apps available and we thought you might like to know about a few of the best of them.

Lauren Indvik over on Mashable has been testing out many of the available apps having spent all day downloading and experimenting and has given details of 10 apps which she describes as “must-have,” although also noted that a few apps she would have like to have seen had not yet made an appearance.

One of the best rated is the free Twitter app which is very similar to its iPad app. However if you’re a frequent user you may be better off with Tweetdeck and one of the things noted about the Twitter Mac app is that it only uses part of the screen. A really great app that we liked the look of was the Remote Mouse which is also free and allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a functioning mouse.

The Translator Free app could also be really useful and allows users to translate sections of text on a new page virtually instantly. If you want to take a look at the other suggested apps then head to the Mashable link above. For more information on the Mac App Store and a hands-on look on how it all works go to an article by Roman Loyola of Macworld, over on PCWorld which takes an in-depth look.

Have you used the Mac App Store yet? If you’ve found any useful apps to share with us or just want to tell us what you think of the Store so far then we’d appreciate your comments.
