Sony Prototype: Head Mounted 3D Unit – Your Thoughts?

The excitement of CES 2011 is here, so far we have brought you news about various audio devices, TVs, cameras, cell phones and of course more tablet PCs that you could shake a stick at, you can view all of them here. Now we have seen an interesting design that is perhaps looking to the future.

The device looks great and Nilay Patel of Engadget.com seems extremely impressed with it, you can view the video showing Patel’s reaction over on their site by clicking here. Whilst this device may resemble something from Star Trek (Geordi Laforge?) it still has some awesome capabilities.

The specs of the prototype look like this, inside the unit, there are two 720p screens with an adjustable eye distance and on the sides it has small speakers that emit 5.1 surround sound. Let’s not forget how this product looks. The device is sleek looking and white base color with cool blue LED pipes that run along the front. On the sides, the LED piping makes the word, Sony. Ensure that you head over to Engadget to read their article and watch Nilay Patel’s video by clicking here. Could you imagine combining something like this with say, the xBox 360 and the Kinect? If that ever happens, then you have a serious gaming experience.

Just to re-iterate this is currently a prototype, however we are hoping that this device graces us with its presence soon. What do you think of the device? If it were coming out tomorrow, would you buy one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
