SkypeHD 720p from FaceVsion’s TouchCam V1 – Your Thoughts?

Many people around the world are using Skype, some of us are signed in right now as we speak! Naturally with the progression of technology Skype is getting more and more tools to run along side it. The latest one is from Facevsion and it is being showcased at CES 2011.

The company has created a new webcam, it’s called the TouchCam V1, and it can do SkypeHD at 720p. Pretty impressive, the instant question that flies straight into your mind, what are the streaming requirements for a HD chat session through Skype? You will need at least a 1.2Mbit/sec up and down bandwidth capable connection.

Importantly, the new TouchCam V1 is Skype HD certified, it has a wide-angle lens and can run effectively on an connection with as little as 1.2Mbit/sec bandwidth and still deliver the 720p quality. Let’s move onto the availability and pricing and the system requirements.

The device will be shipping in the first quarter in 2011 and will set you back $69.99, you can pick it up from the official website here, although we expect the likes of Amazon will also be retailing the new webcam. As for system requirements, you will need to be running Windows XP or higher, have a minimum of 1GB or RAM, an Intel Core2 Duo or an equivalent CPU, version 5.0 of Skype, a USB 2.0 port, and obviously an Internet connection with the bandwidth capabilities mentioned above.
