Vizio Phone: Previewed At CES 2011

We first reported that Vizio would be releasing a tablet PC and cell phone back on January 1st, since then we have reported on many devices coming to CES 2011. We have also informed you of the new Vizio Cinema HDTV LED LCD as well as their new 3D Theater HDTV’s.

So much can change in a single week, going back to our original article on the Vizio tablet and phone we didn’t have too much information other than we knew they were coming. OSM’s Debbie Turner has reported more information on the Vizio tablet PC and now we have unearthed more on the Vizio phone.

If you head to the bottom of our article, you will find Endagdet’s Josh Topolsky showing off the new Vizio phone, although, as he rightly says, this is only an early hand-build phone the screen on it is pretty good. The LCD is at 4” and has a resolution of 854 x 480. The CPU inside is yet to be named and it has been ambiguously described as ‘1GHz Plus’, it has a 5 megapixel camera to the rear and a VGA front facing camera.

We believe that the device is running an Android based OS but it has a heavy Vizio customer skin over the top. Topolsky says in his video that the device also has an IR setup, which means you will be able to use your phone as sort of a universal remote control.

Although prices haven’t been really been communicated, Topolsky managed to get a little bit of information out of the Vizio representatives. They have said that they are perhaps targeting Q2 and they will act aggressively towards the price, maybe this will be a cheaper alternative to the Apple iPhone. There has still been no mention of which carriers the device will be on.
