Verizon & OnStar Team Up Bringing 4G LTE To Your Car

With the mighty CES show due to open its doors from 6-9 January, it is the one event in the year that developers can show off their latest innovations. From tablets, TV’s through to forthcoming smartphones, there is something for everybody. Today its the turn of General Motors and the big red Verizon.

Peter over at PR News has reported on the latest new concept, the OnStar system featuring 4G LTE broadband access. Not only will attendees at the CES get to see this in action, but for the automotive fan, the forthcoming Detroit Auto Show later this month, will showcase a Buick LaCross incorporating the 4G LTE modem from Verizon. For fans chomping on the bit to find out what this will offer, then calm yourself for just one moment. Not only will the car integrate itself with Skype for video chat but will act as a unique impact detection system.

Along with both companies setting themselves up with what looks to be a pretty impressive offering, PR News via Autoblog have talked about the OnStar division of General Motors offering something else to tickle those taste buds. A new “aftermarket rear-view mirror” with OnStar already built-into it along with additional features such as Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Hands-Free Calling and Automatic Crash Response will be available from Best Buy stores.
