Facebook is one of the biggest social networks in the world; it currently has more than 500 million users with more than half of them using it daily. Facebook’s statistics page says, that around 70% of the Facebook community of users reside outside of the United States.

In accordance to Statcounter, Facebook has been surpassed as the top source of social media. The top source is now StumbleUpon. When looking at the analytics you will see that StumbleUpon are now responsible for 43% of all major social media site traffic, Facebook aren’t far off, they are at 38%.

Now you might be wondering how StumbleUpon, which has roughly 13 million users, can generate more traffic than Facebook, which has 500 million users. According to TechCrunch.com’s Alexia Tsotsis, StumbleUpon has excelled by 20% per month partly because of its introduction to Android and iPhone smartphones. Another reason for the massive growth is to do with its installable toolbars and website plugins. It’s measure like these that have increased the company’s unique visitors up to 1.9 million users. Pretty amazing stuff, it seems to us like a mixture of a clever growth plan and perhaps a little bit of luck.
