Sony PlayStation Phone / Xperia Play/ Zeus Z1 running Android 2.3

Sometimes the much-talked about PlayStation Phone has seemed to be almost mythical and at the beginning of December we found some evidence of it along with the fact it may be called the Zeus Z1 and then asked if perhaps there was too much hype surrounding it. By later in December we’d heard more about it and asked if an April 2011 release looked likely.

Then all went quiet again but now new speculation has arisen about the device which has at various times been called the Sony PlayStation Phone, the Zeus Z1 and also the Experia Play. Eric Calouro over on Erictric, sourced from hkgolden.com, informs us about the fact that the device, by whatever name you wish to use at the moment, has been spotted running Android 2.3, Gingerbread and the photos clearly show this plus the Xperia logo can now be seen.

Previously there was a lot of speculation about whether the device would be on Android 2.2 or on Gingerbread so this seems to solve that query at least. If we don’t see any more revealed at CES 2011 which starts on Thursday we would reckon to hear more at MWC in February and this is backed up by an article on DialToSave by Carly Page who reports that Sony Ericsson plan to reveal a range of phones at the Mobile World Congress 2011, one of which is rumored to be the Xperia Play which is deemed to be the official name for the PlayStation phone.

It will be interesting to find out more and as soon as we hear it we’ll let you know but it still looks to us as though the most likely release date will be April. What are your thoughts on this? We’d welcome your comments.
