Toshiba CES 2011 Preview: Tablet Expectation

The Consumer Electronics Show 2011, kicking off in Las Vegas any day now, is looking really inviting this year and we’ve already had some sneak tasters of what we might expect such as a new Vizio tablet device and phone and also the HTC Thunderbolt 4G phone. The big story right now though is all about tablets with a plethora of new devices such as the BlackBerry Playbook and Acer tablets all due soon.

We’ve already given you some idea of what we can expect to see from Toshiba at CES and the company has now given a glimpse of a tablet device. Chris Nuttall over on FT.com tells of a brief encounter with an early version of the Toshiba tablet which will be shown in working order at CES this week. The device is carrying a 10.1-inch multi-touch LED display, larger than the Apple iPad display, and for good measure has two stereo speakers and will also be powered by a Tegra 2 chip.

There’ll be a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, SD card slot, removable battery, GPS chip and as you’d expect Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity. The new Toshiba tablet will be arriving in the first half of this year and a big selling point is that it will be running on the next Android OS, Honeycomb, specifically designed for tablets. It certainly looks as though Toshiba are going all out to impress though of course it will have stiff competition from many other tablets such as an iPad 2.

Joanna Stern over on Engadget also reports on this Toshiba tablet Tegra-2powered device and feels it “may just have what it takes to stick out from the rest” so we can’t wait to see this tablet in action at CES 2011 and find out more. What are your thoughts on this Toshiba tablet and what are your expectations from CES 2011? Why not send us your comments.
