Breeze Android Tablet from AOC: Below $200 or $25 an inch

Here at OSM we’ve been noting how it’s the tablet device that seems to have taken the world by storm and that at CES 2011 later this week we expect to see a huge amount of new tablets to contend with the Apple iPad.

However although we are looking forward to new tablets from Motorola, Microsoft and Toshiba to name but a few, it also has to be noted that there have been a fair few tablets that have come out at shall we say, the lower end of the market, which were prevalent over the holiday season. Another new tablet just announced comes from AOC and at under $200 for the 8-inch device ($25 per inch), you could be forgiven for thinking this is another one just making up the numbers.

However Darren Murph over on Engadget reports on the new Android tablet from AOC which is called Breeze and although it’s difficult to say at this stage exactly where to place this tablet among the market, we could be pleasantly surprised. Consisting of an 8-inch touchscreen with 800 x 600 resolution and a Rockchip processor one drawback could be that it runs on Android 2.1 which already seems dated given that some new tablets are already being planned running on Android 2.4, Honeycomb.

The Breeze also has a USB 2.0 port, 802.11 b/ g WiFi and 4GB of internal storage and comes out later this month. While $200 is unlikely to give you a high performance device this could be the best of both worlds and it will be showcased at CES 2011 so we’ll all get a chance to see more. If you want to check out for more details go to the AOC website here. It may not be listed yet but no doubt will appear once it’s been let loose at CES. What are your thoughts on yet another tablet device on the way? Could you be tempted by the Breeze? Why not send us your comments on this.
