Android SMS Problems: Issue 9392 – Incorrect Recipient Of Text

The success that Android has experienced in 2010 is nothing short of amazing, inevitably there are going to be problems at some stage. A recent problem is one that relies on technology that is more than a decade old.

After reading many of the threads on the SMS problem, a lot of consumers are angered by the issue and are stating that it shouldn’t ever have occurred. In some ways you can agree, but when you think about the amount of technology that appears these days in your mobile phone is unbelievable. With all the new technology being added, there will always be knock on effects, some of which will not always be foreseen.

It is quite a worrying prospect that your message could indeed go to the incorrect recipient especially if there is any important or sensitive information shared by text. If a text goes to the wrong person with some serious information, it could cause some serious damage! From what we have seen, this problem is appearing in versions 2.2 and 2.3 without really being recognized as a bug by Android. This is something that really does need to be addressed and resolved.

As Engadget’s Chris Ziegler rightly points out, if you cannot rely on a device to do what it says it is going to do, then quite simply it’s a game breaker. You can read some of the threads that are circulating here and here. Some of the responses are fairly amusing where people have posted their stories on it but still it’s a serious problem for Google Android.

Has this problem happened with your Android device? What software version are you running? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Hi. I am using my Nexus S (Android 2.3.1 with build number GRH78) since last 1 week. And before that I was usins nexus one with Froyo. Both had the same problem. The SMS messages that I receive have wrong contact numbers or titles. For example, I am receiving an SMS form my friend "A", but it shows that it is coming from "B". It is very annoying. The SMS is a task that a chepaest phone can accomplish. Please hurry Google !!!

I have the evo and yes this is a serious issue. However, it seems to be an issue with the stock sms client. Another issue is the order a text is received. Some text that us received shows up before the text that’s sent. Way out of order.

    Nexus one 2.2

Texts received from commercial services and ads get mixed up. Like a citi balance text will. Be threaded along with Amex etc.

Till now I hvnt faced such an issue for text received from regular nos.

Android is becoming like windows. Too many devices too many clutter. Apps are bound to have bugs if it has to be run on hundred different models with varying hardware and OS version

I have the HTC Incredible, and running Droid Ultimate 2.5.0 I had this flaw happen about a week ago. Thankfully the content of my text wasn't sensitive. Still on my SMS thread, you can see a conversation between me and another, then one text msg in the thread is sent to a different phone number when viewed under message details. I hope they get this resolved ASAP.
