Ford Release SYNC Destinations App

In light of the recent bad weather we have just endured, would it have been advisable to have an app that gave us directions to our chosen destination, information on areas that were potential hotspots to avoid and so on? News in today is that a new Ford SYNC Destinations App is now available for this very item, the downside, you have to have a 2010-2011 SYNC TDI compatible car with an active TDI services account on www.syncmyride.com.

The free Destinations App is available on iOS and Android smartphone platforms with BlackBerry due to join in within the very near future, and can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store or the Android market. To make your journey run more smoothly, the app with the aid of Ford’s traffic supplier “Inrix” can give you an indication on what time to leave to reach your destination, map out your route, give you up to date traffic information including where to avoid due to weather, time of day, and as Engadget reported those busy holiday periods.

If you have to stop on your journey for that much awaited break, then the app will save your details to your cloud-based SYNC services account. Dave Gersabeck, Product Manager for SYNC TDI has said, “SYNC Destinations leverages the power of your smartphone to manage a user’s SYNC Services account and to plan ahead, sending destination locations to your car, and knowing what’s happening on the road ahead of you before you even get behind the wheel.” Automobilemag.com reported on the app having the ability to remember up to 25 previous destinations as well as information including accident and traffic congestion in 126 cities across America.

For any Ford, Mercury and Lincoln 2010-2011 SYNC TDI capable vehicle owners, the new app is available for free to download today, and if you are still not convinced, then Ford will be demonstrating this very item at the CES 2011 event in Las Vegas 6-9 January.
