Apple iPhone: Skype Update – Video Calling Added

Skype is a great tool and now they have explained what went wrong with their unplanned outage back on December 22nd, all seems well. Now Skype have updated their Apple iPhone app and this looks very appealing.

The main part to the update is the addition of Skype video calls. It’s a free update and requires you to be running iOS 4.0 or above. The iPhone 4 will see a good improvement, it will be able to do two-way video calling. Other devices such as the iPad and the 3rd Generation iPod Touch can receive video calls but cannot send them back something to remember, additional data charges may apply.

The fun doesn’t stop there; you can have a video call with a laptop or PC to and from your iPhone 4 (including Mac OS X or Windows). You can make video calls in portrait or landscape. It would seem that the main feature is the fact that you can do your video calling over a WiFi or 3G network, it’s interesting when you think that Apple already has “Facetime” which only works over a wireless network. If you don’t have the app and want to download it, then click here to be directed to iTunes.

Have Skype redeemed themselves from their embarrassing day of December 22nd? Will you be using the new functionality? Let us know in the comments below.
