Sony Ericsson Hallon – Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread Expected

At this time of year, normally we are gearing up for CES 2011, however an image has been leaked of a new handset from Sony Ericsson. The company is expected to be releasing some high end devices next year, some of which, if we’re lucky will be at CES.

From the picture you can see what looks like a high resolution front-facing camera, could this possibly be for 3G video calling? The device is codenamed “Hallon” and we expect to see it running Android’s Gingerbread 2.3 OS. We can’t really tell what the mobile is running from the picture as it could be Android 2.3, or it could be a custom UI from Sony.

With all the rumors circulating ahead of CES 2011 and the Mobile Web Congress in February, undoubtedly many people will have several questions they wish to ask about the possible new handsets from Sony Ericsson. We at OSM are really hoping that Sony Ericsson can gain some success as the market is currently being dominated by other handsets like the Apple iPhone. Perhaps their new models can compete when coupled with Gingerbread 2.3.

There are several articles that are giving opinions on the new models, a few interesting ones are over on Pocketnow.com and Slashgear.com.

If the specs of the new Sony Ericsson handsets are comparable to the current iPhone, would you consider getting one? Is there another handset that has caught your eye? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
