Christmas Trends: Twitter’s hottest 10

Over Christmas you expect families to come together to celebrate and lounge about watching TV with a stack of chocolate; however there is always time for tweeting and this has been proved in this week’s chart of top 10 trends. Credit to Mashable for compiling the list of popular topics that have been talked about over the past week.

So as you may have guessed, obviously Christmas is the top trend of the week as we all celebrated the birthday of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December. With turkey, presents, TV, alcohol and occasionally some snow, Christmas is the ultimate holiday for most and celebrators tweeted about all of these things over the week. The 2nd trend of the week is the lunar eclipse which has not occurred for almost 3 years. Tweeters watched the Moon turn red from the Earth’s shadow and uploaded photos at the same time.

The 3rd big trend is the NFL, with the Washington Redskins Coach, Mike Shanahan, choosing to bench Donovan McNabb in favor of Rex Grossman against the Dallas Cowboys. Winter Solstice is trend number 4 as depending on what hemisphere you live in it was either the longest or shortest day of the year for you on December 21st. The NBA is the 5th topic, with Pro Basketball player Gilbert Arenas, reportedly being traded from the Washington Wizards to the Orlando Magic.

In at 6 is the Jonas Brothers after tweeters celebrated the 1st anniversary of Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa’s marriage. Contact Music has reported that the day was spent at Disney World, with more information and a photo available to see by paying them a visit. On a sadder note is the news that the musician Don Van Vliet, AKA Captain Beefheart passed away on 17th December 2010 which charted at 7. Football/Soccer consistently has kept its place in the chart at 8 with the news that the Indonesian national team had beaten the Philippines national team 1-0.

The South Korean boy-band U-KISS are at number 9 this week because the band member Kevin Woo asked fans what made them smile, and as you can see the tweeters certainly let him know. And finally to complete the chart is Delicious at number 10, with the bookmarking service rumoured to be shutting down soon after a leak on Yahoo.
