Android 2.3 Gingerbread coming soon to Nexus One

A few days ago we told how the source code for the new Android operating system 2.3 or Gingerbread had been made available and that although the Samsung Nexus S was the first smartphone that would benefit from Android 2.3 it should not take too much longer to become available for owners of Google’s Nexus One.

This has now been confirmed via the Google Nexus Twitter Account which contains the following tweet, “The Gingerbread OTA for Nexus One will happen in the coming weeks. Just hang tight!” As Stan Schroeder over on Mashable, sourced from Twitter, points out the Nexus One may have been discontinued but it was one of the first handsets to get the Android 2.2 Froyo update and looks likely to be one of the first to get Gingerbread.

Ok so the term ‘coming weeks’ may be a bit vague but it does show at least that it’s definitely on its way for all you Nexus One owners who can’t wait to get it. If you want to check out all the features that Android 2.3 Gingerbread will give you check out this review over on Phone Dog by Taylor Martin which takes an in-depth look at Gingerbread notifications, icons and widgets, power management, keyboard and more.

Are you a Nexus One owner looking forward to getting the Gingerbread update? We’d like to hear your thoughts on this so please do send in your comments.
