iPhone 5 To Receive Free GPS Navigation: Apple In Talks

There has been much speculation surrounding the up and coming next generation iPhone 5, from what specifications it will be packed with, through to the official launch date. Here at OSM, Debbie has reported on the possible release date of February as opposed to January or July which has already been indicated. But today it’s the news of a GPS Navigation app being included onto the iPhone 5 for free.

At this stage it is still only rumor but iphonefaq.org, has reported on two mapping companies “Poly9” and “Placebase,” who are said to be working closely with tech giants Apple to come up with the ideal GPS Navigation app for the forthcoming handset. Only recently Steve Jobs and his company have been advertising a total of four posts for engineers with relevant developing navigation software experience. Check out the Job Description below.

But on looking at competition particularly that of Google maps and it’s own free GPS navigation app on Android handsets, Apple will need to come up with something sharpish. As coated.com stated, Apple have already got a little head start as their recent acquisition “Poly9” is solely proficient in mapping services.

Is this something you would like to see on the new iPhone 5? Let us know.

Hmmm… Very Interesting. It is in Apples best interests to offer up in-built navigation on the iPhone … I wonder how it will compare to the current offerings from tom-tom and others?

I would like to be able to run my fingers over the letters on the keyboard instead of typing letters. My friend has an htc running droid and has an app for that.
What’s the name of this technology?

I lost my 3G S. It was 32 gig. I am due for an upgrade. I am using a BlackBerry right now. I’m waiting for July for the iPhone 5. I am just hoping that the 5 will be a little bigger in size. I was looking at the Dell phone at Best Buy the size is very impressive. I will not buy it because the edges: a-bit trivial.
