Android Honeycomb To Debut As 2.4 Version: Not 3.0

News has been rife on the internet for some time in relation to the release of Google’s Android Gingerbread 2.3 update, but judging by recent news, this may be outdone by a release of Android 2.4 Honeycomb. Speculation surrounding the 2.3 update was initially expected to be the version 3.0, but Jamie over at PR News has sourced via PC World that is looking to be debuted as 2.4.

The new update will bring an improved Android platform along with features to tablet devices in comparison to the smartphone. As Wireless Ground.com reported, the new Honeycomb update is due to be revealed in February 2011 which will be in time with the Mobile World Congress, although it would benefit Google to bring out the new version before then, with Motorola plus others making announcements of new Android tablets with Honeycomb.

With the ultimate release last Thursday of the Samsung Nexus S incorporating Android’s Gingerbread 2.3, how will this recent news fair with other tablet and smartphone manufacturers? Will they place Gingerbread and then Honeycomb onto their devices or just wait for Honeycomb to make an appearance?
