January 6 opening for Mac App Store

Back in October we told about the introduction of the Apple Mac App Store, and then later noted a possible launch date of December 13 but alas it failed to materialize on that date.

Now though the news it that the Mac App Store will definitely open up on January 6, 2011, according to Jeff Gamet over on The Mac Observer. The App store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad has gained huge popularity and it seemed the natural progression then for a Mac App Store to be launched with Mac OS X applications.

As well as browsing and buying Mac OS X apps customers will also be able to add ratings and read reviews from other customers. Steve Jobs, Apple CEO said, “The App Store revolutionized mobile apps. We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can’t wait to get started on January 6.”

Apps on the Mac App Store will be divided into categories and the Store will be available in more than 90 countries.
