Last week we saw Twitter’s trends being dominated by bad news and this weeks chart is unfortunately the same but with a sporty theme. Courtesy of Mashable we will be bringing you the most common talking points on the microblogging service as usual.
At the summit of the chart is Football/Soccer who are your number 1 and repeatedly becoming a very popular and consistent trend on Twitter. The main talking point last week was regarding the sacking of Newcastle manager Chris Hughton and the appointment of Alan Pardew, a relatively surprising unpopular replacement. However the new boss won his first game in charge, beating Liverpool 3-1 at home.
At number 2 is Teletón 2010, a TV Show held in Chile every year to raise funds for construction and maintenance of the Children’s Rehabilitation Institute. The event has taken place every year since 1978. The NBA is in at 3 this week as LeBron James’ made his return to play against former teammates from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Also it was the 25th birthday of Shannon Brown from the LA Lakers.
Elizabeth Edwards is the 4th top trend because of he unfortunate death at the age of 61. The wife of John Edwards lost her battle with cancer and will have her funeral at The Westboro Baptist Church. Justin Bieber is your number 5, with fans from Venezuela tweeting of their love for him and hope he will tour there. Sitting in 6th place is the NFL due to the tragic death of Joseph Don “Dandy Don” Meredith who passed away at the age of 72. Meredith was an American football quarterback in the NFL and played 9 full seasons for the Dallas Cowboys, aswell as being a football commentator and actor.
The MLB continues the sports/death theme at number 7 with the sad passing of Ron Santo the Cubs player and broadcasting legend. Also the former MLB first baseman for the San Diego Padres, Adrian Gonzales, was traded to the Boston Red Sox. In 8th place is the 69th anniversary of Pearl Harbour, the remembrance of when the Japanese launched an attack on Hawaii. The Golden Disk Awards are at number 9 this week; the biggest TV show in Korean entertainment saw the popular group Super Junior lose out in the grand final.
And to finish things off this week in 10th place is the popular catchphrase TGIF (Thank God Its Friday) for the reason that it can be the start of end of your week depending on your calendar. Thats all for this week, look out for next weeks chart and let us know what you thought of the trends in this one. If you missed the previous chart then you can find it here.
