CES 2011: Windows 8 / Tablet Expectations?

Here at OSM we recently posted an article on CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2011 coming up in January, with ideas of 5 devices that may be the centre of attention. Now we wanted to take a closer look at what news may be coming from Microsoft at the event.

Joab Jackson of IDG over on PC World states that reports say it’s possible that not only will we get some details of upcoming Microsoft tablet devices, but maybe even a preview of early Windows 8. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, is due to give his keynote speech on January 5 and The New York Times has reported that Windows tablet devices from Samsung, Dell and others will be revealed. It even looks possible that an early version of Windows 8 may be shown on one of these devices.

We recently reported on the tablet war getting messy what with a next-generation iPad on the way along with the RIM BlackBerry Playbook, Acer Tablets and others, and Microsoft it seems are keen to let people know it’s not out of the running. Jackson on PC World reports that Windows 7 is not ideal for touch-based devices but that Windows 8 will be more suited for tablets although some experts are saying it might be too soon to see it in action. As we previously reported Windows 8 has been slated for release by 2012.

Meanwhile Richie Jennings over on Computerworld has provided a roundup of tech blogs regarding what might be shown by Microsoft at CES 2011 with many different opinions and ideas to take a look at. What would you like to see from Microsoft at CES? We’d like to hear from you so please do send us your comments.
