Top Facebook Status Updates & Topics 2010

Online social networking site Facebook, has exceeded anyone’s expectations in relation to the amount of users that currently log onto it. Since it’s initial launch back in 2004, the site, despite it’s fair share of negativity is proving to be as popular as ever. The site allows you to stay in contact with your friends and loved ones, post messages and share photos, join groups of interest and update your current status, and it’s this very subject that has been analysed over this last year.

To have any chance of finding out the top trends on Facebook over the last 12 months, the site has had to take a closer look across 236 countries at what you were searching for and any specific phrases used on status updates. Mashable reported that some of the top trends included that of the trapped Chilean miners, Pop star Justin Bieber, Apple’s iPad and iPhone 4, World Cup and so on. Check out the table below.

On analysing the different phrases used, HMU meaning “hit me up,” to call or text someone, was the most popular, particularly amongst the younger generation, seeing some 80,000 mentions a day by the end of August 2010. Also figures increased in relation to Facebook‘s online gaming.

Tell us, are you a Facebook fan and if so, was there a specific topic you were searching for? Do you use the term HMU? Let us know. To find out more head on over to Mashable or check out Facebook’s official blog.
