So you want to work in Social Media: Great employers to work for

Here at OSM we occasionally bring you some advice on careers and job seeking. Recent posts have included using Twitter to search for a job, and earlier today an article on using the business-orientated social networking site, LinkedIn, and avoiding buzzwords that employers feel are over-used on your profile.

We all know that social media is growing all the time and becoming more relevant in everyday life and so it’s no surprise that many people may now be wondering about a career in social media. Amy-Mae Elliott over on Mashable has put together a helpful article about this and looks at 4 top employers for social media professionals along with useful questions and answers from key employees at the companies.

The four employers that head the top of Mashable’s list are Adobe, Best Buy, IBM and Weber Shandwick. Taking a look at Adobe for instance we find out that the company now has a dedicated social media team with a Center of Excellence (like a hub) along with a “social council” from social media across the company. Polices, guidelines, governance, training and so on are provided by Adobe but importantly the company adopts an open standing towards social media saying it “trusts, encourages and empowers employees to do the right thing in social media channels.”

The questions with answer from employees at the company give a useful insight into working in social media at Adobe and the people questioned who work there seem to find their jobs rewarding. To read much more and about the other 3 companies mentioned go to mashable.com.

Another article you might find interesting is how to use social media to find a job and the job might of course be in social media.
