LG Star: Preview of a highlight device for next year

We recently brought our readers a bit of news on the LG Star Android phone due out early next year and now we have some more news that will fill people in with a bit more detail about the high-end phone that looks set to be one of the highlights of 2011.

Over on Engadget, Vlad Savov has managed to get his hands on one, well a test version at least, and has some hugely positive things to say about the LG Star in his preview. After putting it through its paces he describes the device as “outstanding” so we can’t wait to find out more about it. Although as we’ve already said, this was not the finished article, Savov particularly notes the phone’s power, stemming from its Tegra 2 mobile dual-core CPU which gives great performance.

The device’s design is reminiscent of the HTC Droid Incredible although it has a whopping 4-inch display and although the screen is not AMOLED it’s impressive nevertheless with good viewing angles. Savov notes that he has not chosen to preview the software as the device is too far from being the end result but interestingly it seems as though the LG Star could well be shipped running on Android 2.3, Gingerbread.

From what’s been seen so far it really does seem as though LG may have a major hit on its hands. Electronista has also reported on the LG Star saying in benchmark tests the Star is much speedier than any other Android phone has been so far. It looks likely that the phone’s release date may be revealed at CES at the beginning of January, but if not then the next most likely time would be in February at Mobile World Congress.
