iOS 4.3 Release Date: Possible Download Today

Following the recent operating system update, iOS 4.2.1, from Apple we then learned of the iOS 4.3 update and in an article told how a press conference was scheduled for today, December 9, with a possible release pegged for December 13.

Alex Ion over on Device Magazine tells us that the iOS 4.3 update is not a major one but will include in-app based iPad subscriptions. The present iOS only supports single app payments but subscription billing will enable providers of content to bill subscribers weekly, monthly or annually. That would be a real boon to users who want a weekly edition of a magazine for example, instead of having to remember to pay weekly.

Ion also posts today for a possible announcement or even the actual release of iOS 4.3 but points out that no beta versions have been seen yet. Rick Broida over on Cnet also reports on the arrival of iOS 4.3, possibly today and agrees with Device Magazine that this is only a minor update and wryly notes from Gadgets and Gizmos the announcement expected from Apple today is timed nicely to coincide with a Sony announcement, possibly about the PlayStation phone (more on that later today). Whatever is he trying to imply?!

Are you waiting for iOS 4.3 and will you use subscription billing for digital editions? We’d like to hear your thoughts so why not send us your comments.
