Nook Color: Damage/Exploded Units Due To Android Hack

With a market increasing in e-reader devices such as the Amazon Kindle, Apple’s iPad and of course the Nook Color, it’s no surprise that when it comes to deciding what one to purchase it can be a hard decision. But today news has come through of the Nook Color and a recent Android hack which could potentially damage or even explode the unit.

Jamie over at PR News has given us the run down. Installing Android Froyo onto the Nook is not the easiest job in the world and added to this, if you get as far as doing it, you may be putting your e-reader in jeopardy of damage or even exploding. It seems a bulk standard, un-tampered Nook would automatically shut down if the battery is too hot, but if putting Android’s Froyo onto it, although the device recognizes it, this will just shut it down!

There are ways around disabling the Android battery as pointed out by pcworld.com but our advice is to not even attempt it at this stage. As pcworld.com stated the likelihood is that in time, XDA developers will find a way of safely hacking it without the involved risks.

What are your thoughts on this? Let us know. To find out more head on over to PR News.
