Samsung SCH-W899 Android 2.2 Clamshell: Release Details

A new Samsung smartphone has just been launched in China by the name of “SCH-W899” running on Android 2.2, and although you could be forgiven for thinking that Samsung’s latest offering will tick all the boxes in terms of features, you may be slightly disappointed.

First and foremost, as SlashGear pointed out, the W899 is only presently available in China, no news has come through for the North American and European markets. One of the biggest selling points that I can see is the dual 3.3-inch Super AMOLED display on both sides of the W899’s top half.

Chris over at Engadget has reported on the Samsung smartphone running on Android 2.2, 5MP camera, CDMA EVDO compatibility for China Telecom’s service, GSM roaming capability ensuring that you can connect to the network without losing connection even if you are in a different location. As well as this the W899 packs 512MB of memory with the benefit of it being expanded to 32GB with a microSD card slot.

Check out the video below. Are you impressed by what you see? If and when it reaches other markets, can you see it being successful against the big players? To find out more head on over to Engadget.
