Steve Jobs CEO of Apple announced at the beginning of the year, that there was to be a replacement for the company’s wonder device that kick started the tablet revolution. We have all been waiting for a delivery date for the iPad 2.
Well the rumors are circulating that Foxconn the Taiwanese manufacturer has been instructed to produce between 400,000 and 600,000 iPad 2‘s over the next 100 days, this figure was sourced by RegHardWare.
Foxconn must have been sworn to secrecy because the company would not comment on these findings, although DigiTimes reckon that the latest gen tablet will be shipped out by the end of February next year.
If this all falls into place the chances are that Steve Jobs will possibly be presenting the iPad 2 at an event penciled in for January. This would make it a year since the 1st gen iPad was announced.
Bringing a new version of their tablet onto the market, Apple is expected to add a larger landscape-orientated dock connector and a front facing camera, like they did with the latest generation iPod Touch. There is also talk of USB connectivity, although with Apple wanting to keep things in-house a SD card slot will probably be the favored option.
It is highly likely that the iPad 2 will have gone on a crash diet, gaining more plastic to cut production cost and therefore possibly reducing retail prices. Whatever happens we wait with anticipation of some solid shipping dates.
Are you waiting for the next generation Apple tablet, what improvements are you expecting?
