Nexus S release date and specs: Finally official

We’ve had our attention held here at OSM recently by the new Nexus S and have been hearing plenty of news about it even though it hadn’t been officially launched. Our recent posts have included articles about the Samsung Nexus S camera and video capabilities, FCC news about the Nexus S and a Nexus S spotted in the wild running on Android 2.3, Gingerbread.

Now at last Google’s new phone is official. Chris Ziegler over on Engadget sourced from Google and the official Google blog, tells us the news that many have been waiting for. The Nexus S is due for release after December 16 in-store from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobiles and also online and you can choose the unlocked option or one with a T-Mobile plan. In the U.K. it will be released on December 20 at Best Buy UK and also the Carphone Warehouse.

The official Google product page for the Nexus S is now up-and-running and specs include a 4-inch WVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera, 16GB onboard storage and 512 MB of RAM. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is released today and the processor is a 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird.
